Canon introduces EOS R5 camera with 45-megapixel full-frame sensor and 8K RAW video recording

Canon has added two new cameras to its full-frame EOS R series. These two new cameras are the EOS R5 and the EOS R6.

The EOS R5 is an 8K video camera. The camera features a new 45-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with a DIGIC X image processor.

The EOS R5 camera can shoot 8K resolution video at 29.97fps (also in RAW format) or 4:2:2 Canon Log H .265 10-bit or 4:2:2 HDR PQ H.265 10-bit. All this you can do internally without any external recorder. If you don't want to shoot 8K video with it, you can shoot 4K 120fps video with it. Which slow down automatically and are saved on the phone itself. If you want to record video externally, you can record 4K video at 59.94fps.

For video recording, Canon also introduced the new Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, which is an updated version of Canon's previous autofocus. It uses dual pixel phase detection. This camera records all videos internally to one or two of its memory cards. One of these cards is CFexpress and the other is SD UHS-II. 8K RAW can only be recorded in CFexpress.

The camera has a new touch screen and viewfinder on the back. The screen is 3.2 inches with 2.1 million points. Its electronic viewfinder is a 0.5-inch OLED with 5.76 million points and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

A full set of connectors is also provided with the camera, including headphone and microphone jacks, a PC jack for flash syncing, a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port, and a micro HDMI connector. On the wireless side, the camera adds dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

This camera has the same battery as the EOSR but with 15% more capacity. The new LP-E6NH can shoot up to 490 shots with the screen on or 320 shots in EVF 120Hz mode. Canon offers two different battery grip models on this phone. The BG-R10 can hold two batteries and also supports portrait control. The WFT-R10A has the same options, but also has 802.11ac Wi-Fi with better dual-band 2x2 MIMO and an Ethernet port.

The second camera that Canon offers is the EOS R6. It is cheaper than R5. The design and many features of this camera are the same as the R5. The EOS R6 has a 20.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with a DIGIC X processor. This sensor can't shoot 8K video, but many people don't even want to shoot that high-resolution video these days.

However, the camera can record 4K video at 59.94fps and 1080p video at 119.88fps. The screen and EVF of this camera are somewhat inferior to other R5 cameras. It has a 3.0-inch 1.62 million-dot touch screen and a 0.5-inch 3.69 million-dot OLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. This camera has two memory card slots, but this time both slots are UHS-II SD. Both cameras feature a Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system. Both cameras can record at 12fps with a mechanical shutter and at 20fps with an electronic shutter.

The Canon EOS R5 is priced at $3,899 for the body and $4,999 with the RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM kit lens and will go on sale in late July. The price of the Canon EOS R6 body is $2499.

It costs $2,899 with the RF 24-105 F4-7.1 IS STM lens kit or $3,599 with the RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens kit. The camera will go on sale at the end of August. The BG-R10 and WFT-R10A are priced at $350 and $1,000 respectively. These will also go on sale at the end of July.

Canon has also introduced new RF lenses. The RF600mm F11 IS STM is $700 and the RF800mm F11 IS STM is $900. These will also go on sale at the end of July. The RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM is priced at $2,699 and will be available in September, and the RF85mm F2 MACRO IS STM is priced at $600 and will be available in October.

Canon has also introduced two new range extenders. The RF Extender 1.4x is $500 and the RF Extender 2x is $600. These will also be offered at the end of July.
